How our food guides are written
Truvi is a food scanner app. It scans a product's barcode and turns the label into one score and a better option on the same shelf. The food guides on this site are written by the Truvi team with the same data and the same score.
How each guide is made
- Every guide starts from the manufacturer's label: for US products the label data published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in FoodData Central, otherwise Open Food Facts.
- Before a product gets a guide, its label has to pass automatic checks. The calories must match the protein, carbohydrate and fat, the values must be plausible for that kind of food, and the ingredient list must be complete. Products that fail get no guide.
- The score is the same Truvi score the app shows, built from published food-science systems. How the score works.
- Every number in a guide is checked against the label data, and every health statement links to the study behind it. Where research shows a link but not proof, the guide says so.
- If something is wrong, email [email protected] with the barcode and we will review it.
